The UN-GGCE Partnership Program was launched in 2024 to recognize the exceptional commitment and significant contributions of member states, universities, and organizations to the science of geodesy. The partnership acknowledges DGFI-TUM´s expertise in Earth observations, supporting global efforts e.g. for sustainable development. It also promotes awareness of the importance of geodesy and geodata.
DGFI-TUM measures the geometric and physical properties of the Earth system and its changes. It analyzes data from various geodetic space observation systems and plays a key role in developing and improving global coordinates. As a UN partner, it contributes to the implementation of the UN Resolution for the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF), which serves as the basis for satellite navigation, global Earth observations, and surveying.
The institute's research aims to enhance the accuracy of these coordinate systems to meet the high standards of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). The institute contributes to the scientific advancement of the Geodetic Observatory Wettzell and operates its own Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations in Europe and South America. DGFI-TUM is also involved in the planned ESA satellite mission GENESIS and recently published the DTRF2020 solution, representing the latest state of global coordinate systems.
