The annual THE World University Ranking by Subject surveys scientists worldwide on the reputation of universities in research and teaching. In addition, the rankings incorporate data such as the number of publications per researcher, citations per publication, the teacher-student ratio, third-party funding raised from the private sector and the degree of internationalization. These indicators are weighted according to the prevailing culture in the various subject areas.
In 2023, engineering at TUM achieves an overall score of 83.8, with outstandingly high ratings for "Industry Outcome", "Resarch" and "Teaching". Thus, TUM improves by two places compared to the previous year and is now among the 20 best universities worldwide in the subject area Engineering & Technology.
TUM has also been successful in other subjects covered by "THE Rankings by Subject", scoring in the top 50 several times; including 10th place worldwide in the field of Computer Science.
