Master Thesis topics
1. Generative Design for the Creation and Visualization of Buildings based on Functional and Spatial Requirements in the Early Planning Phase
Development and testing of a generative design software tool as part of a research project in which a digital room book and a simulation tool are being developed for the assessment of buildings at a very early stage in the planning process of buildings (Phase-0). Based on the functional and spatial requirements of a planned building which are documented in the digital room book, a 3-D distribution and arrangement of the individual rooms is automatically created for a given or free building envelope and cubature (Generative Design). This arrangement will also be visualized so that architects and planners have a visual idea of the initial design. In addition, variants are to be created, compared and visualized based on parameter studies.
2. Development and Analysis of an AI-FMU (Artificial Intelligence - Functional Mockup Unit) based on Simulation for the Thermal Control of Buildings
The aim of this work is to combine the three technologies of dynamic thermal building simulation, artificial intelligence (AI) and control software and use them in combination. The control of heating and cooling of buildings depends on various input parameters and the selected system technology. With the help of dynamic thermal building simulation, the building performance can be simulated to the minute for an entire year. These results are used to enable an AI (artificial intelligence) module to learn the building thermal dynamics. This can then be used to create an FMU with which the building control system can react in real time to future events such as the weather forecast. With the help of simulation and AI, energy consumption can be minimized and comfort optimized.
